Online Texas License To Carry Course
Question: Is it legal to get Licensed to Carry in Texas, online?
Answer: YES! House Bill 3784, which went into effect on September 1, 2017, allows the Department of Public Safety to certify online course providers, only if the course providers meet eligibility requirements. The approved online course providers can offer the classroom instruction portion of the handgun proficiency requirement and administer the written exam.
Question: Do I still have to take the shooting portion at a range if I take the online course?
Answer: YES! After successfully passing the online course, students are required to attend 1 to 2 hours of range instruction class and demonstrate handgun proficiency with a Texas Qualified LTC Instructor. For more information on what to expect during those sessions, click on "what to expect" then "For Online LTC Courses".
